Paint protection film is the only detailing service that offers genuine physical protection. A ceramic coating changes how your paint behaves chemically; PPF puts a physical layer between your paint and the road.

It is also the most expensive thing most owners will ever buy for their car's appearance, so it pays to understand what you are actually buying.

What PPF is

A clear thermoplastic polyurethane film, typically 150–200 microns thick, precision-cut to your car's panels and applied wet so it conforms to every curve, then wrapped around edges so no seam shows. Because the film is elastic, it absorbs the energy of stone strikes that would otherwise chip the clear coat.

Where damage actually happens

This is the calculation most owners get wrong. On Indian roads, the overwhelming majority of stone chips land on the front bumper, the leading third of the bonnet, the mirrors and the A-pillars. Rocker panels take gravel thrown by the front tyres.

Reading a film warranty

Quality films carry 5–10 year warranties against yellowing, cracking, delamination and staining. Three things to check:

• Is the warranty from the film manufacturer or the installer? Manufacturer warranties survive the installer going out of business.
• Does it cover yellowing specifically? This is the failure mode that ruins the look. Cheap unbranded film yellows within a couple of Indian summers.
• Is installation labour included in a claim? Film replacement is mostly labour.

Installation quality matters as much as film

PPF is unforgiving of dust and rushed work. Ask to see the bay — it should be enclosed, well lit and clean. Ask whether the installer removes badges, lights and trim to wrap edges, or simply trims film at the panel edge. Wrapped edges are the difference between an install that looks invisible for years and one that starts lifting in six months.

Ask whether patterns are digitally cut or hand-cut on the car. Digital patterns are cleaner and carry no risk of a blade touching your paint.
