How to Compare PPF Film Brands Sold in India

Every studio will tell you their film is the best. Rather than take positions on brands, here is how to compare any two quotes on the facts.

1. Thickness

Quality automotive paint protection film is around 8 mil total — roughly 200 microns — usually structured as a top coat, a polyurethane layer and an adhesive layer. Thinner films (6 mil and below) conform more easily around complex curves but absorb less impact energy.

Ask for the total thickness in mil or microns. A studio that cannot state it is not selling a specified product.

2. The top coat

This layer determines gloss, hydrophobic behaviour and self-healing performance. Premium films use an elastomeric polymer top coat with strong shape memory; budget films use a thinner, harder coat that heals weakly and dulls sooner.

Also check the finish: gloss, matte and satin films exist, and matte film over gloss paint is a permanent-looking change that cannot be polished back.

3. Who backs the warranty

The most important question, and the easiest to check. A manufacturer-backed warranty is registered against your vehicle registration and survives the installer closing. An installer's own promise does not.

Established manufacturers issue certificates with a serial number you can verify. Ask to see a sample certificate before booking, not after. What the warranty should name.

4. Where it is made

The market broadly splits into American, Korean and Chinese manufacture. Country alone does not determine quality — there are good Korean films and poor American-branded ones — but it does correlate with price, and a quote priced far below every other for a "premium imported" film deserves questions.

Counterfeit film exists. Buying through a studio that is an authorised installer for the brand is the practical defence.
