PPF for Luxury Cars in Mumbai: What Changes at This End of the Market
By PaintProtectionFilm Team
Everything about paint protection film applies to a premium car, only more so. What changes is the arithmetic and the tolerance for a mediocre installation.
Why full body starts to make sense
On a mass-market car, repainting a bumper is a manageable cost, so partial coverage is usually the rational choice. On a car with a tri-coat pearl, a matte finish or a special-order colour, a single panel respray can run into lakhs — and a resprayed panel is disclosed at resale and discounted regardless of quality.
Against that, full-body film in quality material is straightforward insurance, and unfilmed original paint is a genuine value argument to the next buyer.
Panel complexity
Premium cars have deeper body creases, larger single-piece panels, complex bumper geometry and more sensor and camera housings. Consequences:
- Some panels need bespoke pattern cutting rather than a pre-cut template from a database — particularly on newer or rarer models.
- Larger panels are harder to lay without a seam. Ask specifically whether the bonnet and roof will be single-piece.
- Sensors, radar units and cameras need care; film over the wrong area can affect calibration.
- Removing trim for wrapped edges takes longer and requires the right tools.
Expect a full-body job on a premium car to occupy a bay for four to seven days. A studio promising two is cutting something.
What a studio should show you
- Completed work on the same or a comparable model, in person if possible.
- An enclosed, dust-controlled installation bay — not an open workshop.
- Authorised-installer status with the film manufacturer, and a sample warranty certificate.
- Willingness to discuss where seams will fall before work begins.
Photograph the car on arrival, and ask for a written condition report. Fuller checklist here.
Matte and satin finishes
A matte factory finish cannot be polished — correction as normally practised would gloss it and ruin it. Film for matte paint must be a matte-finish film, and the studio must have done it before. This is the single area where choosing on price causes the most expensive mistakes.
Coating on top
A ceramic coating over the film is standard at this level — easier washing, added UV resistance for the film itself, and consistent gloss across filmed and unfilmed areas. How the layers work together.
Where to look

Frequently asked questions
Should I film a leased car?
Often yes — return condition assessments penalise chips and scratches, and film usually costs less than the deductions.
Will a dealer service centre do this?
Some subcontract to specialist studios. Ask who is actually doing the work.
How much for full body on a premium sedan?
Broadly ₹2,00,000 – ₹4,00,000 in quality branded film, depending on size, panel complexity and coverage detail.
