Ceramic Coating Maintenance: Washing Without Ruining the Coat

A coating's job is to make washing easier. Ironically, washing is what usually kills it. The two habits that shorten coating life most are automatic brush washes and harsh detergents — both entirely avoidable.

The first seven days

A fresh coating is still curing chemically. During the first week:

• Do not wash the car at all.
• Keep it out of rain for at least the first 24–48 hours.
• Remove bird droppings immediately with a damp microfibre and plain water — do not rub.
• Avoid parking under trees.

The routine after that

1. Rinse first. Loosen and float off grit before anything touches the paint. Most swirl marks are put in by dragging dry dust across a panel.

Every few months
