What is Odour Removal & Ozone Treatment?

Air fresheners mask odours; ozone treatment destroys them. Persistent smells — cigarette smoke, spilled milk, pet odour, monsoon damp and mildew, or the sour smell of a colonised AC evaporator — come from organic molecules embedded in upholstery, carpet underlay and the ventilation system, which is why cleaning the visible surfaces alone rarely works. Proper treatment starts with source removal: extraction cleaning of affected fabric, and often removal of the cabin filter and treatment of the evaporator core through the AC drain or vent. An ozone generator then floods the sealed cabin with O₃, an unstable molecule that oxidises odour compounds, bacteria and mould spores on contact and reaches every crevice air reaches, including inside the ducting. The car is run with the AC on recirculation so the system is treated too. Ozone is hazardous to breathe, so the cabin is sealed and unoccupied during treatment and thoroughly aired for 30–60 minutes afterwards, by which point the O₃ has decayed back into ordinary oxygen.
